Tinta Cão is a rare Portuguese grape variety that makes a delicious medium bodied wine with lovely floral aromatics.

Distinctly perfumed and dusted with spice, Tinta Cão has a lovely floral aspect on both the nose and palate. The palate is edgy and vibrant with crunchy berry acidity and a light grip of silty tannin. Flavours of just ripe mulberries, purple flowers and five spice laced with brambly/herbal notes. It’s bright and flavoursome but needs time to shine! Pour it into a big bowled glass and sit with it a while – it unfurls beautifully.

    SILVER MEDAL - Tinta Cão 2015 - 94 points

"..Good balance, texture and structure. There are spice and pepper nuances to the bright red cherry fruits, leaving the mouth refreshed (and looking for a second glass)."

    James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion

    SILVER MEDAL - Tinta Cão 2014 - 93 points

"Tinta Cão is an indigenous Portuguese variety, prevalent throughout the Douro. Seldom made as a straight varietal, its overall aura of savour and clear herbal voice is attractive. Peppery briar, clove and star anise are nestled amidst flavours of raspberry and mulberry. While the fruit allusions are strong, this wine does not stray into sweetness for a moment. A spindle of bright acidity and edgy grape tannins twirl across the palate, laying arid the upper gums. The fruit then spurts back across the plate, readying one for another glass. A wine that is centrally focused in the mouth, pummelling it with texture and generosity. Delicious!"
